The first active chemical ionization mass spectrometry (ACIMS)
measurements in the middle stratosphere using a new balloon-borne ACIMS
instrument. Results are presented for the trace gases CH3CN, (CH3)2CO,
and HNO3. The experimental method is briefly described.
