Stratospheric sulfate was collected by high-altitude aircraft and
balloons to assess the impacts of El Chichon and an unidentified volcano
on the stratosphere. The Mystery Volcano placed about 0.85 Tg of sulfate
in the northern hemisphere stratosphere. El Chichon injected about 7.6
Tg sulfate into the global stratosphere.
