Stratigraphy comprises three major aspects: lithostratigraphy, biostratigraphy and chronostratigraphy. Definitions for their terminology and rules for their nomenclature are proposed in numbered articles in this guide. The paper also discusses in the same way the closely related field of geochronology. A geologic timetable is available and can be obtained upon request.
