An attempt is made to clarify how the flow field for an unsteady flow past an impulsively started infinite vertical plate is affected by a plate temperature that varies with time. An exact mathematical analysis of the Stokes problem for the plate considered is performed. The results obtained show that the flow velocity near the plate increases with both time and Grashof number, that skin friction varies as the 7/2 power of time, and that the Nusselt number varies as the square root of time or the square root of Prandtl number plus one.
