A transition from regularity in the Henon-Heiles model is studied. A novel method for investigating the origin and development of the stochasticity is proposed which is based on constructing the contours of the orbit and the fields of the direction field. This method is more informative and clearer than the classical methods using Poincare maps and the Liapunov characteristic numbers.
