After a short outline of a statistical technique designed to study stochastic processes in stellar evolution, this procedure is applied to the analysis of the effect of random abundance perturbations. It is found that this mechanism destroys the tight mass-time relation and leads to a substantial scatter in the frequency distribution of stars along the isochronous line. In particular, the ratio of blue to red supergiants in synthetic young clusters shows an observationally significant dispersion around the usual value.
