The SWAVES instrument on STEREO consists of three orthogonal six meter monopole antennae mounted on each spacecraft. The environment of a spacecraft-borne antenna contains many parasitic conductors, such as the spacecraft chassis, solar panels, and other instruments. The presence of these conductors results in an effective electrical antenna length that is different in magnitude and direction from that of the physical antenna. In order to determine the true effective length of the SWAVES antennae, it is necessary to make independent measurements of measured voltages using known electric fields. The scale model rheometry method as used by Rucker et al. for the Cassini RPWS instrument offers a means of measuring effective antennae vectors. The antenna measurements are made on a model spacecraft suspended in an electrolytic tank, and then scaled up to the full size spacecraft. We have constructed both a rheometry apparatus and a 1:20 scale model of the STEREO spacecraft, which was gold plated to ensure good surface conductivity. We will demonstrate the validity of the procedure and present the results of the STEREO model measurements.
