High resolution spectra of K-giants obtained in support of Grid Star selection for Space Interferometry Mission (SIM) are analyzed in order to derive fundamental stellar parameters (effective temperatures and surface gravities) and detailed chemical abundances. The spectra are being taken with the Sandiford Cassegrain Echelle Spectrograph in the McDonald Observatory's 2.1m Struve Reflector and have a spectral resolution of R=55,000. Abundance trends as a function of overall metallicity and kinematics will be discussed within the context of chemical evolution within, and formation of, the Galactic halo and thick disk. This research is supported by the National Science Foundation (AST03-07534 and AST03-07532), NASA (NAG5-13175), and JPL.
