The relation between visual surface brightness and (V-R)(0) is refined by taking explicit account of the effects of limb darkening, by adding 40 new stars to the previous calibration, introducing extensive new BVRI photometry, and by incorporating additional angular-diameter measurements. A tight correlation between the visual surface brightness index and (V-R)(0) was found to exist over the entire distribution; hence the conclusion is strengthened that (V-R)(0) can be used to infer visual surface brightness for all luminosity classes and spectral types, including S and C types.
