The "Catalog of Large Martian Impact Craters" was compiled between 1982 and 1987 using the 1:2,000,000 Viking Orbiter photomosaic series. It contains information for 42,283 impact craters 5 km in diameter and larger. Each crater entry contains information about the crater's location, size, terrain, preservational state, ejecta morphology, interior morphology, central pit diameter (if applicable), and minor axis and azimuthal angle of orientation if the crater is elliptical. With the acquisition of new data from the Mars Global Surveyor mission, we are in the process of using MOC, MOLA, and TES data to update the Catalog. The revised Catalog has updates of the earlier categories as well as new columns containing elevation, crater morphometric information (depth, central peak height and basal diameter, number and widths of wall terraces, rim height), ejecta characteristics (ejecta extent, ejecta area and perimeter, ejecta sinuosity), mineralogic information, and thermal inertia. At present we have made substantial progress in revising the preservational categories, measurement of ejecta extent, incorporation of the USGS stratigraphic units, updating the ejecta classifications as per the new suggested nomenclature by the Mars Crater Morphology Consortium (Barlow et al., JGR, 105, 26733-26738, 2000), and updating the interior morphology classifications. This year we have begun to include elevation, thermal inertia, crater morpholmetric, and ejecta characteristics. We will eventually provide access to the new Catalog through an interactive web site. This work is funded by NASA grant NAG58265 through the Mars Data Analysis Program.
