A review of Lower Hybrid Current Drive studies is presented, which highlights main results in the field of current drive efficiency, control of the power deposition profile, wave coupling and power dissipation at the edge that are key issues for an effective application of the LH wave at high power levels in reactor-relevant conditions, with the ultimate goal of steady-state operation.
