A computer algorithm is developed to investigate voids in the galaxy distribution. Statistical analysis of voids in the Center for Astrophysics galaxy redshift catalogue is carried out. The observed number of voids is compared with the random distribution and with the simulated clumpy distribution by Soneira and Peebles (SP). Void statistics for the real data and the SP simulations are similar. It is shown that galaxies surrounding voids do not form shells of higher density. These galaxies have the same distribution of morphological types compared to the whole galaxy population. There is no evidence for any dependence of void sizes on the galaxy luminosities. Some indication of systematic outward velocities of galaxies around voids is presented.
