Current developments in the statistics of the galaxy distribution are briefly discussed. It is noted that there has been a progress in measuring the variation of the deep galaxy counts with apparent magnitude and possible large-scale angular variations of the counts at fixed apparent magnitude. A key problem in the interpretation of the counts is the correction of redshifts of the spectra (effective K-correction at given apparent magnitude). The shape of the galaxy two-point correlation function and joint distribution in redshift and angular position are also discussed. Preliminary results for the two-point correlation function suggest that the galaxy peculiar velocities are large and that the mass in groups of galaxies is considerably above an estimate based on the mass-to-light ratios found in the central parts of the galaxies.
