The distribution of orbital elements for a system of comets whose periods of revolution are less than 165 years is presented. A statistical analysis is given for the short-period comets in Jupiter's family. On the basis of this analysis, arguments are advanced in support of the hypothesis that these comets have been captured from the field of long-period comets.
