Two sporadic-E-layer models are used to calculate the autocorrelation functions of a reflected VHF signal: (1) an ideally reflecting plane surrounded by electron-density irregularities and (2) an ideally reflecting rough surface. The validity of both models is confirmed by a comparison of normalized functions obtained theoretically and experimentally.
