To study the field structure of the Galaxy, it is suggested to use a statistical quantity representing the mean of all mutual distances between N objects in an observed plane square area. Under the assumption that objects in this area are independent of each other and are uniformly and identically distributed, the characteristic and distribution functions for the condensation criterion are derived, and a table of exact critical values is compiled for N equal to or less than 22.
