Calculations are presented of rate coefficients for populating the 1P, 3D, 3P, 3S states of the (2p3p) configuration and the 1pO, 3pO states of the (2p3s) configuration of O III by charge transfer of O IV ions with atomic hydrogen. The reliability of the results is tested using both laboratory measurements of state selective electron capture cross sections and astrophysical observations of the 559 nm emission of O III in high excitation planetary nebulae.
