Star-Forming Galaxies
Scientific paper
Lyman break galaxies (LBGs) are distant star-forming galaxies selected by broad-band colors. They have been extensively studied as a probe of galaxies in the early universe. Here we briefly summarize the knowledge on their properties obtained so far, and report the results of our survey for LBGs at redshift around five (about 1.2 Gyr after the big bang). Using results such as UV luminosity function, star formation density and spectroscopic properties, we discuss the evolution of LBGs and their connection with today's galaxies.
