Star complexes (large scale star forming regions) seem to belong to a star formation hierarchy, in which stars form in hierarchically clustered systems from sub-parcec to kiloparcec scales. Their properties seem to be universal, revealing their importance in studies of star formation in galaxies and in galaxy evolution. We have traced and mapped the star complexes of the Local Group Dwarf Irregular Galaxy NGC 6822 and compared with the star complexes of the Magellanic Clouds. Indications of hierarchical star formation, in terms of spatial distribution, time evolution and preferable sizes were found in NGC 6822 and the Magellanic Clouds. Moreover, the spatial distribution of the various age stellar populations of NGC 6822 has indicated traces of an interaction, dated before 350 Myr.
