Recent observations of two young star clusters in the Small Magellanic Cloud are presented. These clusters formed in very different environments 3-4 Myr ago. NGC 346 in the main body of the Small Magellanic Cloud contains ˜15 coeval subclusters and appears to be a good example of cluster formation via the collapse and hierarchical fragmentation of a giant molecular cloud. On the other hand, NGC 602 is in a relatively isolated environment in the wing of the Small Magellanic Cloud and its formation was probably triggered by colliding H I shells. The dynamics of the ionized gas in the H II regions associated with both clusters indicate that they are quiescent. This suggests that at the low metallicity of the Small Magellanic Cloud, the stellar winds from the cluster O stars are weak, and the nebulae are shaped by their ionizing radiation rather than their winds.
