The 'Select' standardized electrodisplacive displacement transducer is a result of the application of novel fabrication methods to advanced lead magnesium niobate (PMN) electrostrictive materials. Select is a general-application PMN actuator configuration with fixed geometry, fixed active-layers number, and fixed process parameters, consistent with large scale production. The design yields improved sensitivity and uniformity, as well as larger displacements. It is projected that, when fully integrated into the production facility, PMN actuator costs will be reduced to less than $100/channel, while shortening the length of production schedules.
