The theory of nonequilibrium thermodynamics is used to obtain a reaction-diffusion equation describing a thermonuclear reaction system affected by gravitational force and temperature gradient. The CNO cycle is taken as an example to investigate the effects of the gravitational force and temperature gradient on the stability of nuclear reaction inside the star. The stability criterion of the stellar structure is analyzed, and some attractive results are discussed.
