Spiral structure might develop as the gas-dust disk of a galaxy is being formed. The drift flow of gas is studied in the corotation resonance zone of the equatorial plane of a galaxy which has a central rotating bar-like structure. Matter will collect in the plane, and the gas layer will evolve to produce drift flow patterns closely resembling the spiral and related configurations observed in galaxies. By this approach one can also explain the stellar age gradient across spiral arms.
