Times of maxima of the pulsations in the intermediate polar 3A 0729 + 103 are obtained from observations made during 1984-1989. From a quadratic fit to the residuals of the times of maxima the pulsation period is obtained to be 0.010572966 (+ or - 8) d and the white dwarf is found to be spinning up at a rate of 5.7 (+ or - 0.6) x 10 to the -11th s/s. The spin-up time scale is 500,000 yr, which is much smaller than the time scale of binary evolution. This implies that accretion plays an important role in the dynamics of this system. The rate of change of the pulsation period of 3A 0729 + 103 is found to be similar to that measured for five other intermediate polars. Interpretation of the spin-up rate in terms of the magnetic field of the star is briefly discussed.
