From a set of 10 times of maximum light of the 13.2 min pulsational light curve of the intermediate polar V1223 Sgr the authors find that the white dwarf rotation period increases on a time-scale P/P= (1.1±0.1)×106yr. V1223 Sgr is the fifth intermediate polar for which a change of the white dwarf spin rate has been measured. The authors derive estimates of the white dwarf magnetic fields of these five intermediate polars. They find that for some of these systems the white dwarf spin rate is not close to its equilibrium value. The authors suggest that the rather rapid spin-up and spin-down time-scales, observed for intermediate polars, are the result of substantial variations in the mass accretion rate on time-scales less than 105 - 106yr.
