The investigation reported is concerned with the formation of maps of celestial radio sources on the basis of the measured outputs of synthesis-type radio interferometers. The procedure considered for obtaining the maps uses spherical harmonics in place of the two-dimensional Fourier harmonics scheme which is employed in the conventional approach. The new procedure makes it possible to form a 'spherical sky' map of the radio source distribution.
