Stationary, spherically symmetric accretion of a completely ionized optically thin hydrogen plasma onto a Schwarzschild black hole is considered taking into account electron-positron pair production by binary collisions of the plasma particles. It is shown that there exists an upper limit for the plasma temperature of about 200 billion K, thus putting strong constraints on gamma-ray production via neutral pions.
