Results of the spectral investigation of the supergiant HDE 226868, the optical counterpart of the system Cygnus X-1, are presented. They are based on the 6-year (1976 - 1982) observations with the 6-meter telescope. The presence of regular variability of the absorption lines parameters (Wλ, Rc) of different elements with the phase of the orbital period is shown. A detailed study of the temporal behaviour of the complicated and variable He II λ4686 profile has been carried out, and the absorption and the emission components of this line have been separated. An additional emission that distorts the Hβ absorption profile has been revealed, and variations of its parameters (Wλ, Vr) have been studied. A conclusion is drawn on the formation of the He II λ4686 emission near the secondary component, and of the Hβ emission near the surface of the supergiant.
