Spectrometers were installed aboard the Venera 9 and 10 probes to measure the nightglow of the Venus atmosphere in the 3000-8000 A spectral range. Each spectrometer was a diffraction monochromator operating with an autocollimation circuit. The spatial resolution of 12 min corresponds to 15-20 km at the planetary limb. Attention is given to the dependence of glow intensity on sighting height at the limb.
