In this paper we present initial results from the first two seasons of a multi-year spectroscopic monitoring campaign of the chromospheric activity in the host stars of "hot-Jupiters" (planets of roughly Jovian mass orbiting with 0.25 AU.) The goals of this campaign include: the detection of magnetic interactions between exohosts and hot-Jupiters; determination of the chromospheric activity level in these stars; detection and monitoring of stellar spots; improved rotation rates of the stars via tracking of stellar spots; improved age determinations and improved spectral classifications of the exohost stars.
Such long-term monitoring is vital to properly characterize both the stellar activity cycle (Wright et. al, 2004) and to detect the possibly intermittent interactions between a star and planet. As pointed out by Shkolnik et al. (2007), the lack of observed interactions in some systems may be due to the significant variations in a star's natural chromospheric activity which complicates the search.
This paper will include results from those host stars that have been well observed in the first two seasons as well as improved spectral classifications for all target stars.
