Spectroscopic observations of the symbiotic star CI Cygni performed between July and October 1980 with an aspherical grating spectrograph at a dispersion of 40 A/mm are presented. Among the lines detected, the forbidden Fe V, forbidden O III and forbidden Ne III lines are found to be the most intense after the H and He II lines, with the forbidden Fe II, Fe III and S II lines also present. The H-alpha, H-beta and H-gamma Balmer emission lines are doubled, while the He II 4686 A line is one of the strongest. Other allowed lines of high-ionization potential elements include O III, N III and C III, and a weak line attributed to Si IV. The forbidden line positions indicate positive radial velocities, while the allowed lines correspond to negative radial velocities; the Balmer lines exhibit a regression in radial velocity. The radial velocities suggest the presence of two groups of nebular layers: outer layers producing the forbidden lines and falling towards the star, and inner expanding layers producing the allowed lines.
