Stars: Novae, Cataclysmic Variables
Scientific paper
From the Downes et al. catalog of cataclysmic variables, we selected 55 program stars, which are accessible and either do not have any published quiescent spectrum or have a reference spectrum that is only described, to take CCD spectrophotometric observations in order to confirm or disprove their CV nature because the lack of a published spectrum can leave their classification as CVs in doubt. According to our spectroscopic observations, only 27 (49%) of them are corroborated to be CVs. In this paper, we present low-resolution spectra of the 27 confirmed CVs in the 3700-8500 Å wavelength range. B, V, and R magnitudes, as well as equivalent widths and line fluxes of the principal emission lines, are derived for them. The secondary is detected in seven systems (KZ Cas, V513 Cas, FX Cep, V1052 Cyg, V1060 Cyg, V1390 Cyg, and V493 Lyr). Nine objects should be in outburst at the time of our observation.
