Using the similarity of weather processes of the Martian surface rocks and the rocks of Earth's continental surface with arid climate samples of iron-containing phyllosilicates and palagonite as likely analogs of Mars soil were selected. Goethite (alpha-FeOOH) and hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) are the coloring pigments in all the cases. The comparison of rocks' reflectance spectra obtained in 0.37 - 1.1 micrometers range with goethite and hematite spectra allow the following conclusions which are of interest when interpreted with Mars surface reflectance spectra: the form of the rocks' spectra is determined to a considerable extent by what mineral association the coloring phase of goethite and hermatite are dispersed; the absorption band at 0.9 micrometer in some yellow clays' spectra occupies more longwave positions than in the clear goethite spectra; the dependence of the description of the rocks' reflectance spectra on the degree of their exogenous changes is not obvious.
