The wavelength dependences of the ultraviolet excesses of the RS CVn-type stars RS CVn, AR Lac, and UX Ari have been measured spectrophotometrically with a wavelength resolution of 60 A. A number of mechanisms are examined to account for the excess light from these systems, and it is concluded that free-free emission from hot circumstellar gas provides the most satisfactory explanation.
