Inner satellites of Jupiter were observed in August 1996 over the wavelength range 0.25 to 0.80 microns with the Faint Object Spectrograph of the Hubble Space Telescope. At this writing we have obtained spectra of the leading hemisphere of Amalthea and of both hemispheres of Thebe. Both objects show a strong red slope in the 0.25 to 0.45 micron range suggestive of the presence of sulfur-bearing compounds. This work is based on observations with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope obtained at the Space Telescope Science Institute, which is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under NASA contract NAS5-26555. This work was supported by STScI Grant GO-6552.
