We are developing a new photometric index using the Ca II H and K lines. Since one of these lines is a blend with H-epsilon, we hope this will provide a relatively reddening-free temperature index over a wide spectral range. We have fabricated filters centered independently on the two lines with 3 nmwide transmission curves. We have obtained spectra on field stars over a wide range of spectral types using the 1.2-m telescope at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory (DAO to spectrophotometrically examine the expected results from the filters. In addition to these results, we will present some of the first photometric observations taken through the new filters using the 1.8-m telescope at DAO.
