The 6-m telescope of the USSR Academy of Sciences was used to obtain the spectrum of the quasar S5 0014 + 81 in the 4500-7000 A range (10-A resolution). On the basis of six emission lines, a redshift of 3.382 + or - 0.003 was determined. From a Lyman discontinuity value of about 0.5, the line-of-sight column density of neutral hydrogen was estimated to be 10 to the 17th/sq cm. The spectral features are analyzed and possible explanations for the high luminosity of the quasar are considered.
