Photoelectric photometry has been obtained for 39 stars within a one square degree area covering the range 13.5 < V < 17.1, -0.22 < B-V < 1.50. Microdensitometer scans of spectra of the same objects from a widened UK Schmidt low dispersion objective prism plate have been compared with the photometry. The results imply that microdensitometry can enable spectral classification with an accuracy of one or two spectral sub-types to be carried out on these plates.
