The 385-420-nm absorption features toward OQ 172 are characterized on the basis of spectra obtained at 2.2-A resolution using a 1000-channel video photon counter and a fast spectrograph with a 1302-line/mm grating and first-order dispersion 50 A/mm at the f/4 prime focus of the 6-m telescope of the USSR Special Astrophysical Observatory at Nizhni Arkhyz during 24,000 sec of observations on May 24-27, 1982. The data are presented in tables and graphs and discussed. All of the H2 lines of the absorption system at redshift 3.09 are detected, confirming the observations of Baldwin et al. (1974).
