Observations of six asteroids, including 279 Thule, were carried out on 1990 March 18-19, using the Faint Object Spectrograph on the 4.2-m William Herschel Telescope. Three broad absorption features, at 416, 441 and 515 nm, were discovered in the reflectance spectrum of 1269 Rollandia, and more surprisingly in 279 Thule. No such features were found in the other four asteroids observed.
