High-time-resolution measurements on Prognoz-8 were used to obtain time spectra of ion density fluctuations in the solar wind, which can be aproximated by a piecewise-power function with an exponent of 1.5 + or - 0.2 at frequencies below the critical frequency of 0.6 Hz and with an exponent of 2.3 + or - 0.2 at frequencies above the critical frequency. The absence of a sharp break in the spectrum at frequencies above the critical frequency points to a sufficiently high level of density fluctuations in the scale range less than 100 km. Small-scale density fluctuations can be explained by the turbulence of high-frequency magnetoacoustic waves propagating at large angles to the magnetic field.
