The 3.60 m CFH telescope was used to perform the first resolution of the Pluto-Charon system. Charon is the faintest object to be resolved by speckle interferometry. The diameters of Pluto and Charon were derived to be 4000 and 2000 km, respectively; the albedos were found to be almost identical, 0.20; the inclination of Charon's orbit was found to be 100 deg, the radius of orbit 2200 km, and the total mass of the system 2 x 10 to the 25th g; mass densities were found to be 1.8 x 10 to the 25th g for Pluto and 2 x 10 to the 24th g for Charon. These results point to a common origin of Pluto and Charon (e.g., the encounter of Neptune with a large planet).
