We present a new mechanism for delivering large quantities of low angular momentum gas to the nucleus of a galaxy. Of order 102-103 warm halo clouds (WHC) surround our galaxy, each containing 105-107 Msun of gas. WHCs are likely to be present around other galaxies in similar quantity. The impact of a single WHC near a nucleus could fuel significant activity. Activity would be predominantly in the form of star formation but possibly also in the form of accretion onto a central supermassive black hole. We will show that nuclear activity fuelled by impacts of WHCs can reproduce the observed distribution of activity as a function of black hole mass, with small mass black holes more likely to experience a WHC impact compared to larger mass black holes. Depending on the origin of WHCs (either a galactic fountain model or a primordial infall model), we will present observational tests of this scenario.
