A German space project involving a telescope for planetary observations (Planetenteleskop) is presented. The pointing measurement system for the target tracker is shown to be very ambitious. According to the system requirements, available CCD and CID detector arrays have to be operated in unusual modes. Alterations to readout structures are proposed to facilitate such operational modes. The devices obtained could provide solutions to the problems of various image tracking applications.
