In terms of a plane model of the magnetosphere, a study is made of hydromagnetic waves, with allowance made for finite pressure of magnetospheric plasma. The study reveals the existence of a poloidal resonance surface in the magnetospheric model concerned. Standing (along geomagnetic field lines) Alfven waves are propagating ones along the radial coordinate. In this case, waves that are excited in the region of a poloidal resonance surface, travel slowly toward the poloidal surface. The possible existence of a resonator for Alfven waves in the region of a partially-ring current is considered. Alfven waves are coupled with slow magnetosound which also shows resonance on some magnetic surface.
