A family of exact solutions to the Einstein-equations with a pressure-free matter source is described with reference to models of cosmological inhomogeneity. The solutions, formulated by Szekeres, possess a type of symmetry in which the three spaces orthogonal to the fluid flow are conformally flat. A theorem is thereby proved which restricts the possible inhomogeneous cosmologies with conformally flat 3-surfaces, and it is compared with spatially homogeneous models which admit such surfaces. Attention is given to the retention of spatial conformal flatness while the condition of spatial homogeneity is relaxed.
