Objectives of space science are reviewed in the context of astronomical and astrophysics studies, solar physics, as well as interplanetary and terrestrial electromagnetic studies. The reasons for conducting observations from space are explored, noting that the earth's atmosphere prevents most of the available space information from reaching the observers on the ground. Findings relating to puzzling phenomena, such as the blackholes and supernovas, are reviewed, as are various solar-terrestrial studies. Past and future space programs are mentioned, including the Pioneer Venus mission and the 1983 Solar Polar mission by NASA and ESA.
