The goals and the components of the Space Experiments with Particle Accelerators (SEPAC) System, part of the Space Shuttle and Spacelab program, are described. The main components of the SEPAC system are an electron beam accelerator and a magneto-plasma-dynamic arcjet. The accelerators are installed on a pallet, with monitoring and diagnostic observations being made by onboard beam-monitor TV camera, particle, wave, and plasma measuring instruments. The main scientific objectives of the experiments are: beam-plasma physics; beam atmosphere interactions; modification of ionosphere parameters; and vehicle charge neutralization.
