Using the data of the 321 pulsars so far known the Galactic distribution and the luminosity function of pulsars have been investigated. The total number of pulsars in our Galaxy is found to be 9 × 104. If the mean age of pulsars is 1.8 × 106 years, the birth-rate of pulsars in the Galaxy will be one every 20 years. This rate is not in contradiction with the birth-rate of supernovae.
