A brief overview of the concept of space power beaming systems with solar-pumped lasers as the in-space energy source is presented. For the past two decades under auspicious of NASA-Langley Research Center we have pursued a solar-pumped laser development program and searched its space applications including laser-beamed propulsion. Among various laser media evaluated for suitability the iodine photodissociation laser was found to be the best qualified and could be scaled up to a lightweight space borne system. The results of the proof-of-the concept experiments will be provided.
